Vonage, a cloud communications expert helping businesses speed up their digital transformation and a part of Ericsson, has teamed up with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to bring new solutions to millions of AWS developers via the AWS Marketplace.
This partnership combines Vonage’s platform, which uses communication and network APIs that connect to communications service provider (CSP) networks, with Ericsson’s 5G capabilities and AWS services. Together, Vonage and AWS aim to create a range of solutions that help customers use the network to spark innovation and improve the overall customer experience.
Kathrin Renz, Vice President of AWS Industries, mentioned that AWS and Vonage share a commitment to helping customers deliver innovation and value. She added that the collaboration would help drive new industrial and enterprise applications across various industries, blending 5G networks with technologies like generative AI to fuel new products and enhance customer experiences.
According to Omdia’s Cybersecurity Decision Maker Survey 2023, 92% of organizations experienced a security breach or incident in the past year. Additionally, imposter scams in the U.S. led to $2.6 billion in losses in 2022, as reported by the Federal Trade Commission. Fraud is an increasing concern for businesses, but there are ways to reduce these risks.
The Vonage Fraud Protection solution, available on AWS Marketplace, will include several key features. These include the Vonage CAMARA-based API SIM Swap (which will be in alpha when available), the enhanced Fraud Defender solution powered by AWS’s generative AI services, and the Verify and Number Insights APIs paired with Amazon Rekognition. With these updates, Vonage aims to continue developing solutions that bring the power of network APIs to market.
One notable feature is the SIM Swap network API, which allows developers to check if a phone number has recently had its SIM card swapped and if fraud was involved. Vonage’s enhanced Fraud Defender API detects fraud signals, the Verify API ensures secure silent authentication, and the Number Insights API provides fraud scoring.
AWS’s generative AI services will further enhance the fraud detection capabilities of this solution, helping businesses protect themselves from mobile fraud while improving the customer experience.
Niklas Heuveldop, Vonage CEO and head of global communications platform at Ericsson, said that working with AWS will speed up their ability to integrate communications and network APIs into applications and offer new products for AWS and Vonage customers. By exposing new capabilities from within the 5G network, Vonage is enabling the development of a new class of applications.
Nick Laidlaw, CTO at Voicify, shared that Voicify already uses Vonage’s communications APIs in their AI-driven experiences for the restaurant industry. With the addition of the new Fraud Protection Solution and network APIs like SIM Swap, Voicify can offer more robust security for SMS and telephony transactions, ensuring they are secure and trustworthy.
