Cohesity, an expert in AI-powered data security and management, has teamed up with Intel to bring Intel’s confidential computing capabilities to the Cohesity Data Cloud.
This collaboration, enhanced with Fort Knox, Cohesity’s industry-leading cyber vault service, introduces data-in-use encryption, a groundbreaking innovation in the data management sector.
Together, Cohesity and Intel are addressing a major cybersecurity challenge for CIOs. Traditionally, protecting data in use—while actively being processed in memory—has been difficult, leaving data vulnerable to insider threats. By integrating Intel Software Guard Extensions (Intel SGX), Cohesity will help its customers reduce the risk of unauthorized access to data during processing. This is especially critical for industries like finance, healthcare, and government, which are highly regulated.
Cohesity’s platform, Cohesity Data Cloud, has long included advanced technologies to help large organizations manage and secure their most critical data from cyber threats. By partnering with Intel, they aim to reduce cyber risks further by:
- Creating a solution to protect encryption keys in a hardware-secured environment using Intel SGX for confidential computing in the cloud.
- Reducing the risk of data exfiltration, as the encrypted data is not visible or downloadable by privileged accounts while it is being processed in memory.
- Allowing Cohesity customers to verify the legitimacy of their Intel SGX through Intel® Trust Authority, ensuring that the latest patches are in place and only running the dedicated Cohesity application before accessing the data encryption key.
Cohesity’s CEO, Sanjay Poonen, emphasized the company’s commitment to innovation, noting that their collaborations with trusted tech leaders like Intel help strengthen business resilience for global enterprises. With Intel SGX, Intel Trust Authority, and confidential computing, customers will experience reduced risk and enhanced security in cloud environments, allowing them to focus on their core business.
Intel’s executive VP and CTO, Greg Lavender, highlighted that Intel is a leader in data center confidential computing, helping organizations handling sensitive or regulated data meet their confidentiality, integrity, and attestation needs. The partnership with Cohesity reflects the growing demand for secure cloud data protection and aligns with the shared goal of providing a trusted computing environment.
